Why do you apply this coating to the shear blades before quenching
Mar 31, 2026
A common question from our detail-oriented clients is: "Why do you apply this coating to the shear blades before quenching?"

To put it simply: Because shear blades come in various sizes and are often produced in custom quantities, they are best suited for heating in a box-type furnace. However, the main drawback of these furnaces is that they cannot isolate the workpiece from the air.

When a blade is heated while exposed to oxygen, oxidative decarburization occurs—meaning the carbon content on the blade's surface decreases. This negatively impacts the surface quality after quenching. If this decarburization layer is too deep to be fully removed during finishing, it can become a fatigue source, leading to cracks or failure.

By applying this specialized anti-oxidation and anti-decarburization coating and drying it before heating, we create a protective barrier that effectively preserves the steel's integrity.
